Faced with the damage caused by the New York Stock Exchange crisis in 1930, Brazil, the largest coffee producer in the world, entered a deep cycle of losses in its production. The effects of the crisis were devastating and would have been much worse without the courage of Engineer Francisco D’Andrea and his brother Victor D’Andrea, who joined forces to save producers by founding D’Andrea & Brothers in 1934.
Francisco D’Andrea’s courage to lead and undertake changed the feeling of failure and with a lot of work in less than a decade, D’Andrea helped the Brazilian coffee market to recover its production and global status in the production chain.
The proportion of producers in the market who succumbed to the crisis was very significant. Providing direction was a priority for Francisco D’Andrea.
With great commitment, D’Andrea began manufacturing specialized machinery, providing competitive capacity and lines of credit for producers who gradually saw their crops flourish again. It was the strength of a new beginning, pulled with strong determination. This has become the company’s greatest virtue, which from the beginning has focused on technology to make its customers more capable and competitive.
In 1942, the company name was changed to Indústria de Máquinas
D’Andrea S/A and in 1950 began exporting to South America and Africa and even European countries such as Portugal and Spain.
The deal was successful and resulted in the transfer of the industry to a new headquarters with a 33,000 m2 plot of land next to the railway in the city of Limeira (São Paulo, Brazil). The new headquarters housed the foundry, machining and assembly of its products, generating six hundred new jobs for the city.
In 1952, D’Andrea founded its paper factory, an important initiative that placed it in focus the manufacture of Machines and Equipment for Paper and Pulp Production began, which produce paper from shavings and/or virgin fibers. This market that had a large deficit with rudimentary processes and few national suppliers. Years later this paper factory was sold and became part of Indústrias Emanuel Rocco S.A. While D’Andrea remained a manufacturer of machinery and technology serving the development of this segment.
During the government of President Juscelino Kubitschek, The D’Andrea Industries positioned itself as the main ally of the industrial revolution in Brazil, supplying more than 2,000 machines to the Agribusiness industry financed exclusively by D’Andrea Máquinas S/A. It was our commitment to the presidential objective: 50 years in 5.
In 1977 Francisco D’Andrea passed away. The D’Andrea industrial conglomerate remained predominant in the agricultural sector and with important representation in the paper segment.
Now under the direction of Sérgio D’Andrea, Francisco D’Andrea’s son and successor, the paper market would become even more promising, counting on D’Andrea’s experience and technology.
Machinery exports reached historic records, with more than 100 countries served.
Until 2015, the paper production industrial park in Brazil consisted of 180 machines. 120 of them were manufactured by D’Andrea and most of them are still in production.
After 18 years supporting the agricultural and paper segments in Brazil with business mastery, Sergio D’Andrea could not resist a massive heart attack. His son Sérgio D’Andrea Júnior was not retained by the company’s board of partners.
The new management, however, was unable to sustain market leadership and the company suffered a loss of its investor base.
In 2015, Sérgio D’andrea Júnior assumed leadership and D’Andrea’s commitments to the market, inheriting the legacy of the family company in its third generation, maintained the pioneering initiatives and with his aggressive management, began the production of conversion machines for paper and paper tissue. The advanced packaging and edgeboards market is now led by D’Andrea Máquinas, which supplied 70% of the equipment used by national manufacturers and dozens of machines that were exported. With customers in more than 100 countries, D’Andrea’s responsibility for innovation and progress has never been stronger.
“We were pioneers in the development of paper pallets in the world and we have the most promising technologies to build a future committed to sustainability.
We have been at the forefront of the packaging industry for almost 10 years, building long-lasting businesses that respect the environment.
Exporting machines no longer makes sense for us, now we want to be alongside our customers, present in their daily lives and celebrating their achievements.”
